June 10 (Bloomberg) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao called for increased economic and military cooperation during a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Dmitry Medvedev, in Uzbekistan.

“We should join our efforts to attain greater, real results in cooperation on trade, the economy, energy and military technology,” Hu told Medvedev today in Tashkent, where the two leaders arrived to attend a regional summit tomorrow.

Medvedev will visit China in September.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which also includes Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, plans to adopt new criteria for admission. India, Pakistan and Iran seek to join the organization, Medvedev’s foreign policy aide Sergei Prikhodko said June 8.

The Kommersant newspaper reported that Russia and China have insisted that the organization not admit countries under United Nations sanctions, which would exclude Iran.

Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who took part in the last year’s summit in Yekaterinburg, won’t travel to Tashkent, Prikhodko said.
